Double acts like the Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise and Allen and Rossi have a long tradition in comedy, but step aside funnymen of old, our own Goliath and Goliath are here. Goliath and Goliath will offer visitors to the Carnival Comedy Sessions double the fun and double the laughter at their show every Wednesday from 24 July to 28 August at the Carnival City Mardi Gras Theatre.
Jason and Donovan Goliath have two things in common, they have the same surname and they are both stand-up comedians. What they aren’t, are members of the same family and individually, each of the two Goliaths have enjoyed success as stand-up comedians.
Jason has a larger than life personality and physique and besides having played at the leading comedy venues, also features on TV as Cell C’s “Farrell”, First for Women’s “Dashboard head” and he is also one of Castle Lager’s “Amajitas”. As Donovan says about him, “Jason Goliath is so fat that if you stand too close to him you lose cell phone reception.”
Donovan is harder to label. He is a Caucasian-looking coloured guy who speaks Xhosa. His comedy is based on telling stories that reveal simple truths about people and he does so using various characters and impersonations. Jason says of him, “We have successfully managed to teach Donovan English, but convincing him that the western world wears shoes on stage has been a challenge.”
Together, their comedic styles and personalities combine to fill a stage (not difficult for Jason) with non-stop laughter. And to make the stage even fuller (if that is possible) they will be joined by different comedian guests at each show.
So, if it’s a bellyful of laughs you’re after, don’t miss Goliath and Goliath in action from 20h00 every Wednesday. Tickets cost R80 each and are available at the door. For reservations, please call 011 898 7000.
